Money & Style ( merchandising )

Style & Money is a  project that took place inside Gazebo summer club, nearby the sea of Almiros ( 50 Km away from the city of Volos). The task always has been the viewer's entertainement, but this is not something that can be compared, with the retails window display. The viewer is not a passing by person, waiting to be stimulated by the most dazzling window ( so some basic factors has to be reconsidered again), simply because the viewer is someone who is having really good time, drinking colourful coctails, dancing and laughing with his/her friends.

The concept has been chosen according to current economical conditions of Europe, and more specific of Greece. People now, has to be more selective about their choices, to every aspect of their everyday life. The will search for something that will make them to be stimulated, to be entertained and for sure to represent theirselves as they are.
This is vital subject for everyone who respects his/her's beliefs and it called Style

Style, is what everyone is looking for everywhere.
Is everything that represents who someone is, not by the use of his/hers identity but from the way he/she is holding the cigarette, the blowing of the smoke, the perfume, the smile, the way of walking and definately the clothes.

History of  fashion has indicated 1940's a period where because of World War II, all the people of Europe were buying a specific number of  clothes by the use of coupons ( due to limited fabric stocks ). But this gave the people the chance, to use their fantasy and creativity and express their personal taste by customizing their clothes.

Style is not a matter of money.

Through this project, the viewer will be stimulated by selective covers from the most ideally styled women, from the 19th Century till now, as an inspiration.

Then, selective samples from all the ingredients for a stylish outfit, that viewer can use to discover his/her personal style, are displayed by the simplest way in the window.

    Discover
which one of them is reflecting the type of music that you hear, what colour looks better on you and your mood, what kind of jeans is appropriate for your beloved shoes.. select them and mix and match them with your personal style.

    After all remember
Style is not a matter of money

Fridged denim jacket ( customizing )

Leftover fabrics ( customizing )

"Everytime I have fabric leftovers, I have this huge urge of using it all. All I needed was regular blue denim and black denim which I got from Jonathan`s shirt & vest leftovers. I thought a vest would be fine, since denim is perfect for it and I didn`t had enough for a jacket… lol. The vest has a weird asymmetric shape on the back, I didn`t want it to be too rigid so that worked for me."

Fantastic job! I want to make one for myself also. For a more lightweight version you can use only denim shirts and regular mens suit shirts. The pattern is basically a regtangle piece with arm holes cut out.

Customized Hasbeens ( customising )

Nora took her Swedish Hasbeens to a friend of hers, Erika and asked her to paint them. I must say, with the new ethnic print, they are looking mighty fine.

ODD culture by Poola Kataryna ( styling )

I´m always thrilled to discover new Finnish fashion talent, especially if the designer has a green philosophy. Introducing Poola Kataryna. Poola's design timeless, oddly beautiful and locally & ethically manufactured products. The inspiration comes from living in Finland between Scandinavia and Russia and from mixing modern Scandinavian design heritage and decorative Slavic culture. "Poola Kataryna products are designed for those who love bicycle adventures on midsummer nights, weird daydreams and having a cup of tea in a bubble bath." Can you make it sound any more better than that?

Her collection called Odd Couture is my favorite. All the garments are made of macrame knotted 100% cotton jersey (handmade in Helsinki, Finland). The material is leftover from textile industry which is a material I think more designers with sustainable intrests should explore. Macrame is a craft technique that was popular in the 70´s but has regained popularity in the last years (more in fashion than in interior decor) due to the rise of new wave hippy chic trends. Even with the association to hippy crafts, Poola makes her clothes look modern and clean stylingwise. That just proves how versitile her collection and macrame technique is when the material is upgraded to today.
